I was lucky enough to experience an elopement like no other with some amazing people for Jason & Casey’s ceremony. We hiked, made fires, drank straight from the bottle, walked knee deep in ice cold water, sang (well, they did any way)… we really experienced “life off the grid” together in the San Juan Mountains. And I have to say, I haven’t felt that alive in a long time.
The groom’s grandparents have been coming to this exact spot since the 40’s (they actually live there half the year now). And Jason has been climbing this unmarked trail since he was 12 with them. I could feel that there was an understanding between them all …one only they knew. A sense of belonging that I’ve seen so many people long for throughout their entire lives. These folks have it, y’all. And it’s magic.
This is me… being all sporty.
The sweetness these two share is undeniable. Tears in both their eyes …and maybe even a little in Najar’s too! He was the 50 something officiant and friend who kept up with these (much) younger folks like a champ! Heck, both us old farts did!
All in all, this was an experience of a lifetime. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of it all. I could write a book about this trip, but I’ll stop here… resting our memories in those rolling rivers and on wings of the chipping sparrows.
