In 2018, I was lucky enough to meet the Guttmans. They hired me to capture the journey of their precious Merritt’s first year of life, and I feel truly honored to have been there to see how it all unfolded…
Anyone who has had a child knows that first year goes fast and furious. There are amazing moments that change you in a way that almost feels like it’s on a cellular level. And even though storms can rage, that first smile, hand squeeze and giggle can melt all the hurt away into a peaceful hum in your heart.
At first, the family and I agreed on the usual… a newborn session to commemorate her sweet appearance to be followed by a 6 month and one year milestone. Buuuut then Christmas came, and …well of course, a Jammie Session was in order!
Followed by a whole bunch of this CUTENESS…
Once spring rolled around, another big family announcement was made… Merritt’s sweet Grandfather was in grim health. The family met me at a gorgeous spot in Round Rock that seemed almost meant for us …with surreal golden light and an immense oak tree with strength from roots as deep as the generations that run through their family.
When Merritt’s mom reached out about the One Year Milestone, she broke the sad news that he did pass a little while after that shoot and how thankful they are to have these images of him. It warms my heart to know Merritt has these… Pictures of her grandfather holding her and being able to see the joy in his eyes because he was able to know her.
Long days and short years. That’s what they say. It’s easy to let it all roll on by. But if you hold on tight, and love as hard as you can, you just might win on this thing called LIFE!
Happy Birthday, Sweet Merritt girl. One down and at least a hundred and one to go 😉 I hope you enjoy them all!!
